        Magical Things To Do In And Around Litchfield County

Topsmead Estate in Litchfield. Take in the views, a sunken garden and endless meadows… simply lovely. You will want to take pictures and bring picnic – pure magic.

See some owls at the Sharon Audubon Society, Eagles and hawks too. A great place for adults or little ones. Marked walking trails. Oh, and a quaint tiny nature museum.

Breakfast and paddling. Start at O’Hara Landing on the Twin Lakes in Salisbury and enjoy a wonderful pancake breakfast. Rent a boat to paddle or motor around the lakes. Swim, fish or just relax and enjoy the gorgeous scenery.

Get a Merlot Slushy at Sunset Meadows Vineyard in Goshen. A great spot to walk through local vineyards and get some sun. Browse their gift shop for unique gifts.

Flea market and antique hunt at The Elephant’s Trunk in New Milford. Bring a truck. You will want to buy really, really cool old things. From collectibles to true antiques – it is there!

Wander (or saunter) on a boardwalk that is built over a protected marsh at White Memorial Nature Center in Litchfield. You may even see a blue heron, or a few celebrities. Shhh. Don’t bother them – they are WEEK END ING. :)

Fall in love at the Mayflower Grace. It’s pretty glamorous, and it’s a perfect place to fall in love, go to the spa, revel in the lack of cell service, and feel special. If you can book a stay there, you will certainly fall in love with something, I am sure. Don’t miss the terrace. It’s divine.

Hike the Kent Falls. It’s great to go here during the week, when it’s quiet. Get a great leg work out by hiking up the falls. Then check out downtown Kent. Browse books.

Drive to the Berkshires. Get lost there. It’s pretty rad. Many cool shops and restaurants. Many cool shops and restaurants. Park in the public parking in Great Barrington. Explore. Stop at the Bistro Box (it’s on the way).

Drive the Covered Bridge in Cornwall. Get out and walk around by the river.

Be a kid again when you eat ice cream at Arethusa Dairy. The extra thick milkshakes are very popular as are the waffle cones. There are flavors like Butter Pecan, Rum Raisin, Coconut Chip and Mint Chip. Take a seat outside and enjoy your delectable treat.

Visit the Litchfield Historical Society and step back in time as you browse artifacts and etchings dating back to before the Revolutionary War. Then walk North and South Streets to admire the rows of fine antique homes that date back to the 1700’s.

Be a cowboy at the Goshen Fair Labor Day weekend. Wear cowboy boats; eat fried food or apple crisp as you browse blue ribbon livestock. There is even a skillet tossing contest for the brave!
